As you’re aware, God’s own country Kerala is up against nature’s fury, and the misery is growing by leaps and bounds. Flood waters have destroyed more areas of the state, bringing general life and economic activities to their knees. The flood situation continues to be grim as the death toll rises to 324, injured thousands of people and many rendered homeless. With no letup in the torrential rainfall, flight operations at Kochi airport have been suspended till Saturday. With the Meteorological department predicting heavy to very heavy rains across the state till August 18, a red alert has been sounded in all 14 districts. More than 1.5 lakh people have been lodged in relief camps across the state. Landslides were reported in many parts of the states.
According to recent media reportage, the Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan pegged the loss at Rs 8,316 crore so far due to the floods – this includes damage to crops, properties etc. so far. The CM has appealed to the people for generous contributions to battle the worst floods faced by Kerala in nearly a century. Following this, people from all quarters, including public figures and NRIs, have come forward to donate funds and collect supplies such as water cans, rice, candles and sanitary napkins. While the Government along with the Army, Navy and Indian Air Force are doing their best to scale up the rescue and relief operations, this is an urgent request to all our readers to support the relief efforts.
Here are some important Kerala flood relief URLs and addresses where people can donate funds and supplies and help those affected by the floods in Kerala rebuild the lives.
